"Never was a great athlete. Ran a little track in high school but never lettered. Sporadically lifted weights in my 20s and 30s, averaging 2-3
months every year. Running was more enjoyable and, of course, more
convenient. All I had to do was put on some running shoes and head out
the door (never went beyond a 5K distance). With the arrival of my sons
and an increase in the workload as a territory manager, even my running
took a back seat as I approached the end of my 5th decade. I was living
off my reserves and those reserves were running low.
When the opportunity came along to change careers, I decided to take that leap of faith. Going from a territory manager with the company car, expense account and steady paycheck to starting my own personal fitness business from scratch took the support of my family and a belief in the ultimate goal. Over the past several years there have been mostly highs with a couple of lows thrown in for good measure, but the decision, while more challenging that I had imagined, is finally taking shape. For those of you who have started your own business, you`ll recognized the analogy of "peeling the layers of an onion". With each passing week you learn, you grow. As long as your striving to accomplish your goals, good things will happen.
My career has turned into my avocation, inspired in part by the fact that four family members ended up either in nursing homes or requiring 24 hour in-home care. Little did I realize at that time (this was several years before I decided to become a personal trainer) how those experiences with the "twilight years" would end up fueling the fire that burns today. My passion is to help people understand how being physically fit brings with it a range of benefits that, once fully understood, would cause every man and women to get up off the couch, step away from the computer screen, drive past the drive-up window and start investing in their primary asset.......their physical health.
What I teach is not rocket science. The ability to build a functionally fit human being with strength, speed, flexibility and overall physical confidence is not complex. Anyone can do it. The one absolute that each client must bring to the table is consistency. I'll set the table , but the client must make the commitment to sit down at that table and stay the course. You will never regret your decision. The results will amaze you!" Rick
